Equipment

  • 1 Baking sheet
  • 1 Parchment paper (optional)
  • 1 Knife
  • 1 Cutting board
  • 1 Oven mitts

Ingredients

  • 1 package (8 oz) Pillsbury Crescent Rolls
  • 16 pieces cocktail sausages mini hot dogs
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese optional for inside
  • 1 large egg for egg wash, optional
  • 1 tablespoon water for egg wash, optional
  • to taste mustard or ketchup for serving, optional

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). If using parchment paper, line a baking sheet with it.
  • Open the can of Pillsbury Crescent Rolls and unroll the dough onto a clean surface. You’ll see it’s divided into triangles.
  • If desired, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on each triangle to add extra flavor.
  • Take one cocktail sausage and place it at the wide end of a crescent roll triangle.
  • Roll the sausage into the dough starting from the wide end, and taper it off at the pointed end. Place the wrapped sausage on the baking sheet, seam-side down.
  • If using an egg wash, beat the egg with water in a small bowl and brush the mixture over each wrapped sausage for a golden crust.
  • Bake the pigs in a blanket in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until they are golden brown and puffed.
  • Remove from the oven and let them cool for a couple of minutes before serving with mustard or ketchup.

Notes

For a fun twist, you can use different types of sausages, like spicy chicken or vegetarian options.
Feel free to season the crescent dough with garlic powder or poppy seeds for added flavor.
These can be made ahead of time and frozen, then baked directly from the freezer; just add a couple of extra minutes to the cooking time.
