Equipment

  • 1 roasting pan
  • 1 meat thermometer
  • 1 basting brush
  • 1 whisk
  • 1 small bowl
  • 1 large bowl
  • 1 aluminum foil
  • 1 carving knife

Ingredients

  • 1 whole turkey 12-14 pound, thawed.
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter Softened.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons fresh rosemary Chopped.
  • 2 tablespoons fresh thyme Chopped.
  • 2 tablespoons fresh sage Chopped.
  • 1 whole onion Quartered.
  • 4 cloves garlic Smashed.
  • 2 cups low-sodium chicken broth

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
  • In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, olive oil, salt, black pepper, rosemary, thyme, and sage. Mix well to create an herb butter.
  • Pat the turkey dry with paper towels. Gently lift the skin of the turkey and spread some of the herb butter underneath the skin, covering the breast meat. Rub the remaining herb butter all over the turkey, ensuring it is evenly coated.
  • Stuff the cavity of the turkey with the quartered onion and smashed garlic.
  • Place the turkey breast-side up in the roasting pan. Pour chicken broth into the bottom of the pan to keep the meat moist during cooking.
  • Roast the turkey in the preheated oven for about 3 hours or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) when measured at the thickest part of the thigh. Baste the turkey with the pan juices every 30 minutes.
  • Once cooked, remove the turkey from the oven and cover it loosely with aluminum foil. Let it rest for 20-30 minutes before carving to allow the juices to redistribute.
  • For crispier skin, you can increase the oven temperature to 375°F (190°C) for the last 30 minutes of cooking.
  • Serve the Herb-Roasted Turkey at your festive gathering, enjoying it alongside your favorite sides.
