Equipment

  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 whisk
  • 1 griddle or non-stick skillet
  • 1 spatula
  • 1 measuring cups
  • 1 measuring spoons

Ingredients

  • 8 slices thick bread (like brioche or challah)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • a pinch salt
  • butter for cooking
  • maple syrup for serving, optional
  • fresh fruit for serving, optional
  • powdered sugar for dusting, optional

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt until well combined and frothy.
  • Preheat your griddle or non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add a small amount of butter to grease the surface.
  • Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, allowing it to soak for about 15-20 seconds on each side, ensuring that each slice is well-coated but not overly soggy.
  • Place the soaked bread slices onto the hot griddle or skillet, cooking in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side until golden brown.
  • Flip the slices carefully using a spatula and cook the other side for another 2-3 minutes until it is also golden brown.
  • Remove the cooked French toast and set aside on a warm plate. Repeat the process with the remaining bread slices, adding more butter to the cooking surface as needed.
  • Serve the Sweet French Toast warm, drizzled with maple syrup, topped with fresh fruits, and a dusting of powdered sugar if desired.
  • For an extra flavor boost, you can add a splash of orange zest or a little nutmeg to the egg mixture.
  • Try using different types of bread for varied taste; sourdough or whole grain can add a unique dimension.
