Ingredients
  

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 whole egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract optional
  • 3/4 cup colored sugar or powdered sugar for decoration, optional

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line your baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a small bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and white sugar until smooth using an electric mixer or whisk.
  • Beat in the egg and add the vanilla and almond extract (if using). Mix until well combined.
  • Gradually add the dry flour mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until fully incorporated.
  • Roll the dough into balls (about 1 inch in diameter) and place them on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  • If desired, sprinkle colored sugar or powdered sugar on top of the cookies before baking.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  • Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.

Notes

For different flavors, you can add lemon zest or orange zest to the dough.
Decorate with frosting or sprinkles for special occasions.
Store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
