Ingredients
  

  • 4 cups powdered sugar

  • 1/4 cup milk Add more milk, a tablespoon at a time, for thinner consistency.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Can be substituted with other flavors or extracts.

Instructions
 

  • In a mixing bowl, beat together the softened butter and powdered sugar with an electric mixer on medium speed until smooth and creamy, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Gradually add the milk and vanilla extract, continuing to mix until the frosting reaches a spreadable consistency, about 1-2 minutes more.
  • If you’d like to use food coloring, separate the frosting into smaller bowls and add a few drops of food coloring to each bowl. Stir until the color is well combined.
  • Use a spatula or knife to spread the frosting onto cooled sugar cookies. You can also pipe the frosting for a more decorative effect.
  • Allow the frosting to set for about 15-30 minutes before storing or serving the cookies.

Notes

Make sure your butter is at room temperature for easy mixing.
Store the frostings in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week if not used immediately.
