1 mixing bowls
1 electric mixer or whisk
1 saucepan
1 trifle dish or large glass bowl
1 spatula
1 set measuring cups and spoons
- 1 pound fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup vanilla custard store-bought or homemade
- 1 sponge cake or ladyfingers about 250 grams
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 bunch fresh mint leaves for garnish optional
In a mixing bowl, combine the sliced strawberries and granulated sugar. Toss gently and let them sit for about 10 minutes to release their juices.
Meanwhile, if using a sponge cake, cut it into cubes, or use ladyfingers as is.
In another bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold in the vanilla extract to combine.
To assemble the trifle, start with a layer of sponge cake or ladyfingers at the bottom of the trifle dish.
Spoon a layer of the sweetened strawberries over the cake, followed by a layer of vanilla custard.
Add a layer of whipped cream on top of the custard.
Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of whipped cream.
Garnish with additional strawberry slices and mint leaves if desired.
Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
You can substitute the strawberries with other fruits like blueberries or raspberries for a mixed berry trifle.
Homemade custard can be made by whisking together eggs, sugar, milk, and cornstarch on the stove until thick.
This dessert can be prepared a few hours ahead of time, making it perfect for gatherings. Enjoy!
