  • 1 whisk

  • 1 pitcher or large jar
  • 1 grater for nutmeg
  • 8 serving glasses

Ingredients
  

  • 6 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup rum (or bourbon, as preferred)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg plus extra for garnish
  • a pinch salt

Instructions
 

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk the eggs and granulated sugar together until the mixture is light in color and well combined.
  • Gradually add in the milk and heavy cream, whisking continuously until the mixture is smooth.
  • Stir in the rum (or bourbon), vanilla extract, ground nutmeg, and a pinch of salt. Mix well.
  • Taste the eggnog and adjust the sweetness or alcohol content if desired by adding more sugar or rum.
  • Once well combined, transfer the eggnog into a pitcher or large jar and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to chill.
  • Before serving, give the eggnog a good stir.
  • Pour into serving glasses and sprinkle a little extra nutmeg on top for garnish.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy the festive cheer!

Notes

To make a non-alcoholic version, simply omit the alcohol and consider adding a splash of vanilla extract for flavor.
Eggnog can be made in advance and stored in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days.
Always serve chilled and remember to stir well before serving as the ingredients may settle.
