  • 1 Measuring cups
  • 1 Measuring spoons
  • 1 Wooden spoon or spatula
  • 1 Fine mesh strainer optional
  • 1 Jar for storage

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and halved
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice Enhances flavor and helps preserve the syrup.

Instructions

  • Place the halved strawberries, sugar, and water in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir gently to combine.
  • As the mixture heats up, mash the strawberries lightly with a wooden spoon or spatula to release their juices.
  • Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, then reduce the heat to low and let it cook for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally until the strawberries break down and the syrup starts to thicken.
  • After 15 minutes, remove the saucepan from the heat. If you prefer a smooth syrup, pour the mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a bowl or jar to separate the solids from the liquid.
  • Stir in the lemon juice, which will enhance the flavor and help preserve the syrup.
  • Let the syrup cool down to room temperature before transferring it to a jar for storage.
