Equipment

  • 1 wok or large skillet
  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 measuring spoons
  • 1 measuring cups
  • 1 cooking spatula
  • 4 serving plates

Ingredients

  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup lobster paste (or lobster base)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup green onions, chopped
  • 1/4 cup bell pepper, diced
  • 1/4 cup pea pods, trimmed
  • to taste salt
  • to taste pepper

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the shrimp with cornstarch and a pinch of salt. Toss to coat the shrimp evenly. Set aside.
  • In a wok or large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  • Add the shrimp to the pan and cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently, until they turn pink and opaque. Remove the shrimp from the pan and set aside.
  • In the same pan, add the chicken broth, lobster paste, and soy sauce. Stir well and bring to a simmer.
  • Once the sauce is simmering, add the diced bell pepper, green onions, and pea pods. Cook for 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
  • Return the cooked shrimp to the pan and stir to coat them in the sauce. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to ensure everything is heated through.
  • Adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper to taste. If you like a thicker sauce, you can mix a little more cornstarch with water and stir it in at this stage.
  • Serve hot over rice or noodles on individual plates.

Notes

For a spicy kick, consider adding crushed red pepper flakes or a dash of chili sauce.
You can substitute shrimp with other seafood like scallops or crab, if preferred.
This dish pairs well with steamed jasmine rice or lo mein noodles for a complete meal.
