Equipment

  • 1 large mixing bowl
  • 1 food processor optional
  • 1 skillet or frying pan
  • 1 spatula
  • 1 measuring cups and spoons
  • 1 baking sheet optional if baking

Ingredients

  • 1 pound raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  • If using a food processor, pulse half of the shrimp until coarsely chopped, leaving the other half whole. If not using a food processor, roughly chop the shrimp with a knife and set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the chopped shrimp (and whole shrimp), breadcrumbs, mayonnaise, parsley, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well blended and slightly sticky.
  • Form the mixture into small cakes, about 2-3 inches in diameter. Set aside on a plate.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once hot, carefully add the shrimp cakes to the skillet, making sure not to overcrowd the pan.
  • Cook the shrimp cakes for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
  • Remove the cakes from the skillet and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil.
  • For a healthier option, bake the shrimp cakes at 375°F (190°C) on a greased baking sheet for about 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  • Serve with a dipping sauce of your choice, such as a spicy aioli or cocktail sauce.
  • Add diced jalapeños or hot sauce to the mixture if you prefer a spicy kick.
