Equipment

  • 1 large skillet
  • 1 wooden spoon or spatula
  • 1 measuring spoons
  • 1 cutting board
  • 1 chef's knife
  • 1 serving platter

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped (about 1 cup)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup beef broth or water

Instructions

  • Heat the skillet over medium heat and add the olive oil.
  • Once the oil is hot, add the chopped onions and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until they become translucent.
  • Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute, being careful not to burn it.
  • Add the ground beef to the skillet. Use a wooden spoon or spatula to break it up and brown it evenly for about 5-7 minutes until fully cooked.
  • Drain any excess fat from the skillet if desired.
  • Sprinkle in the chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine and cook for another minute to let the spices bloom.
  • Pour in the beef broth or water, and stir well. Simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the mixture to absorb the flavors and the liquid to reduce slightly.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
  • Serve hot over your favorite dishes, or use in tacos, burritos, or as a salad topping.

Notes

You can add diced bell peppers or jalapeños for extra flavor and texture.
For a healthier version, consider using lean ground turkey or chicken instead of beef.
Any leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat before serving.
