Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease the 9x13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easier removal.
In a large mixing bowl, beat together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until creamy and well combined.
Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
In another bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
Spread half of the cookie dough evenly into the prepared baking pan to form the bottom layer.
Drizzle the salted caramel sauce over the cookie dough layer. Be sure to leave some room around the edges to prevent overflow.
Crumble the remaining cookie dough evenly over the caramel layer, covering it as much as possible.
Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.
Remove the bars from the oven and sprinkle a pinch of sea salt over the top while they are still warm.
Allow the bars to cool in the pan before cutting them into squares.
