Equipment

  • 1 mixing bowls
  • 1 whisk
  • 1 electric waffle maker
  • 1 measuring cups
  • 1 measuring spoons
  • 1 spatula

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat your waffle maker according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder until well combined.
  • In a separate bowl, mix together the buttermilk, eggs, vegetable oil, red food coloring, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay.
  • Lightly grease the waffle maker with cooking spray or oil.
  • Pour an appropriate amount of batter into the preheated waffle maker (about ½ to ¾ cup, depending on the size of your machine).
  • Close the lid and cook according to the manufacturer’s instructions, usually around 4-5 minutes, or until the waffles are cooked through and golden brown.
  • Carefully remove the waffles and keep them warm while you repeat the process with the remaining batter.
  • Serve the red velvet waffles warm with cream cheese syrup or your choice of toppings.

Notes

For a fun twist, consider adding chocolate chips to the batter for extra sweetness.
Store leftover waffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze them for longer storage.
Reheat in a toaster or waffle maker for a crispy texture.
