  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips optional

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  • In another bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar using an electric mixer until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Add the egg, red food coloring, and vanilla extract to the butter mixture. Beat until well combined.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. If desired, fold in the white chocolate chips.
  • Using a cookie scoop or spoon, drop tablespoon-sized portions of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake for about 10 minutes, or until the edges are set and the tops look slightly cracked.
  • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a cooling rack to cool completely.
  • For an extra festive touch, sprinkle powdered sugar on top before serving.
  • Store the cookies in an airtight container for up to a week.
