- 4 slices bread Whole wheat or white.
- 4 slices ham
- 4 slices pineapple Fresh or canned, drained.
- 4 slices mozzarella cheese
- 2 tablespoons butter Softened.
- 1 tablespoon pizza sauce
- to taste salt and pepper
Begin by preheating your non-stick skillet over medium heat.
Take two slices of bread and spread 1 tablespoon of the softened butter on one side of each slice.
On the unbuttered side of one slice, add a layer of pizza sauce, followed by a slice of mozzarella cheese.
Place two slices of ham on top of the cheese, followed by two slices of pineapple.
Add another slice of mozzarella cheese on top and then cover with the second slice of bread, ensuring the buttered side is facing outward.
Repeat the process to make the second sandwich.
Place the sandwiches in the preheated skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese has melted. Press down slightly with a spatula for an even cook.
Once cooked, remove the sandwiches from the skillet, let them cool for a minute, and then slice in half before serving.
You can add some crushed red pepper flakes for a bit of heat if desired.
Feel free to substitute the ham for turkey or Canadian bacon for a different flavor profile.
Serve with additional pizza sauce on the side for dipping. Enjoy your Hawaiian pizza grilled cheese!
