Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
While the pasta is cooking, heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté for about 3-5 minutes until it becomes soft and translucent.
Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Cook until browned and no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Once the sauce has thickened slightly, add the cooked pasta to the skillet. Toss to combine, making sure the pasta is well coated with the sauce.
If desired, sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese on top and garnish with fresh basil leaves.
