Equipment

  • 1 grill or grill pan
  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 whisk or fork
  • 1 tongs
  • 1 paper towels

Ingredients

  • 14 oz firm tofu 1 block
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • to taste salt
  • green onions for garnish, optional

Instructions

  • Press the tofu to remove excess moisture. Wrap the tofu block in paper towels and place a heavy item on top. Let it sit for about 15 minutes.
  • Prepare the marinade by combining soy sauce, olive oil, rice vinegar, sesame oil, maple syrup or honey, minced garlic, grated ginger, ground black pepper, and a pinch of salt in a mixing bowl. Whisk together until well combined.
  • After pressing, slice the tofu into 1-inch thick slabs.
  • Place the tofu slices in the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Let them marinate for at least 10-15 minutes for maximum flavor.
  • Preheat your grill or grill pan over medium heat. Once hot, carefully place the marinated tofu slices on the grill.
  • Grill the tofu for about 5 minutes on each side or until grill marks appear and the tofu is heated through.
  • Once done, remove from the grill and let it rest for a couple of minutes. Serve garnished with chopped green onions if desired.

Notes

If you prefer a spicier tofu, you can add some red pepper flakes to the marinade.
This grilled tofu can be served with rice, quinoa, or as part of a salad.
