Equipment

  • 1 non-stick skillet or frying pan
  • 1 spatula
  • 1 butter knife
  • 1 cheese grater if using block cheese

Ingredients
  

  • 8 slices bread White or whole wheat.
  • 8 slices cheese American, cheddar, or your choice.
  • 4 tablespoons butter For spreading on the bread.

Instructions
 

  • Preheat a non-stick skillet or frying pan over medium heat.
  • Spread 1 tablespoon of butter evenly on one side of each slice of bread.
  • Place 4 slices of bread, buttered side down, in the skillet.
  • Top each bread slice in the skillet with a slice of cheese. If you like extra cheesy sandwiches, you can add two slices of cheese per sandwich.
  • Place the remaining 4 slices of bread on top of the cheese, buttered side up.
  • Cook for 3-4 minutes or until the bottom bread slices are golden brown and the cheese begins to melt.
  • Carefully flip each sandwich using a spatula and cook for another 3-4 minutes, until the second side is golden brown and the cheese is fully melted.
  • Remove the sandwiches from the skillet and cut them in half if desired. Serve warm.

Notes

Feel free to experiment with different types of cheese or add extras such as sliced tomatoes, cooked bacon, or avocado for added flavor.
For an extra crispy crust, you can sprinkle a little garlic powder or onion powder on the butter before grilling.
If you prefer a healthier option, consider using whole grain bread and lower-fat cheese options.
