Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease the loaf pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Set aside.
In a large bowl, use an electric mixer or whisk to cream the softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
Add the molasses and eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with hot water, starting and ending with the flour mixture. Mix just until combined. Stir in the vanilla extract.
Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, smoothing out the top with a spatula.
Bake in the preheated oven for about 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Once baked, remove from the oven and let the loaf cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely.
