Place the cubed bread into the greased baking dish. Pour the egg mixture over the bread, ensuring all pieces are coated. Gently press the bread down with a spatula to soak up the liquid.
Cover the dish with aluminum foil and let it sit for at least 30 minutes at room temperature or refrigerate it overnight for a more intense flavor.
After soaking, remove the foil and bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
Once baked, let it cool for about 10 minutes before slicing.
Serve warm, drizzled with maple syrup, and dusted with powdered sugar. Top with fresh berries or bananas if desired.
