Equipment

  • 1 large mixing bowl
  • 1 whisk
  • 1 shallow dish
  • 1 non-stick skillet or griddle
  • 1 spatula
  • 1 measuring cups and spoons

Ingredients

  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup eggnog
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 8 slices thick bread (such as brioche or challah) Stale bread works best for French toast.
  • as needed tablespoons butter For cooking.
  • as needed tablespoons maple syrup For serving.
  • as needed tablespoons powdered sugar For optional garnish.

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, eggnog, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon until well combined.
  • Preheat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat and add a small amount of butter to coat the surface.
  • Dip each slice of bread into the eggnog mixture, allowing it to soak for a few seconds on each side.
  • Place the soaked bread slices onto the skillet or griddle, cooking in batches if necessary. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  • Transfer the cooked French toast to a warm plate and keep covered while you finish cooking the remaining slices.
  • Serve the French toast warm, drizzled with maple syrup and optionally dusted with powdered sugar.

Notes

For added flavor, consider mixing in a pinch of nutmeg or using flavored eggnog.
Pair with fresh fruit or whipped cream for an extra treat.
Make sure your bread is thick enough to hold up to soaking; stale bread works best for French toast.
