1 9x13-inch baking dish
1 mixing bowl
1 whisk
1 measuring cups
1 measuring spoons
1 oven mitts
- 1 box chocolate cake mix 15.25 oz
- 1 box chocolate instant pudding mix 3.9 oz
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup chocolate chips semi-sweet or dark
- 3 1/4 cups hot water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- optional whipped cream or ice cream for serving
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and greased the 9x13-inch baking dish with non-stick spray.
In a mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, chocolate instant pudding mix, eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until well blended and smooth.
Pour the batter into the greased baking dish, spreading it evenly.
Sprinkle the chocolate chips over the batter.
Carefully pour the hot water over the entire cake mixture. Do not stir; this allows for the cake to have pudding-like consistency.
Bake in the preheated oven for 50 minutes, or until the top is set and a toothpick inserted comes out mostly clean.
Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and let it cool for at least 10-15 minutes before serving.
Serve warm, topped with whipped cream or ice cream if desired.
This cake is best served warm, but it can also be enjoyed cold.
For an extra chocolatey experience, you can add chocolate sprinkles or additional chocolate chips on top before serving.
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave before serving if desired.
