Equipment

  • 1 medium saucepan

Ingredients
  

  • 12 oz fresh cranberries About 3 cups.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 orange orange, zested and juiced Optional ingredient for flavor.
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon Optional ingredient for flavor.

Instructions
 

  • Rinse the cranberries under cold water and pick out any stems or damaged berries.
  • In a medium saucepan, combine the water and sugar. Heat over medium-high heat, stirring until the sugar is dissolved.
  • Once the sugar is dissolved, add the cranberries to the saucepan.
  • If using, add the orange juice, zest, and cinnamon for added flavor.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer.
  • Cook for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries burst and the sauce thickens.
  • Remove from heat and let the sauce cool before serving. It will thicken more as it cools.
  • For a variation, you can add chopped apples or walnuts before serving.
