Equipment

  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 whisk or electric mixer
  • 1 9x9 inch baking pan
  • 1 parchment paper (optional)
  • 1 spatula
  • 1 knife for cutting brownies

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips optional

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease the baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easier removal.
  • In a mixing bowl, melt the butter in the microwave or on the stovetop until completely melted.
  • Whisk in the granulated sugar until well combined, then add the eggs one at a time, making sure to mix well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Sift in the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix the batter. Fold in the chocolate chips if using.
  • Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  • Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for at least 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Once cooled, cut them into squares.

Notes

For a richer flavor, you can add chopped nuts like walnuts or pecans into the batter.
