Equipment

  • 1 large skillet
  • 1 cutting board
  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 spoon or spatula
  • 1 tortilla warmer or aluminum foil optional

Ingredients

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 8 small corn or flour tortillas
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or Mexican blend)
  • 1/2 cup sour cream (optional) Optional topping.
  • 1/2 cup salsa (optional) Optional topping.
  • Fresh lime wedges For serving.

Instructions

  • Start by cutting the chicken breasts into small, bite-sized pieces and place them in a mixing bowl.
  • Drizzle the olive oil over the chicken, then add the chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until the chicken is evenly coated with the spices.
  • Heat the large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the seasoned chicken to the skillet.
  • Cook the chicken for about 7-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until fully cooked and no longer pink in the center. Ensure the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).
  • While the chicken is cooking, warm the tortillas either in a tortilla warmer or wrap them in aluminum foil and place them in a preheated oven (about 350°F or 175°C) for 5-7 minutes.
  • Once the chicken is done, remove it from the heat and let it sit for a couple of minutes.
  • To assemble the tacos, place some of the chicken in the center of each tortilla. Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, and any other desired toppings such as sour cream or salsa.
  • Serve with fresh lime wedges on the side for squeezing over the tacos.

Notes

Feel free to customize the toppings based on your preferences. Avocado, jalapeños, or cilantro are great additions.
If you want a bit of heat, consider adding chopped fresh chili peppers or using spicy salsa.
You can substitute chicken with grilled shrimp or beef for a different flavor.
