- 8 oz pasta (penne or fusilli)
- 1 lb Italian sausage mild or spicy
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes optional
- to taste salt
- to taste pepper
- fresh parsley for garnish
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Remove the sausage from its casing and crumble it into the skillet. Cook, stirring occasionally, until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
Add the minced garlic to the skillet and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, until fragrant.
Pour in the heavy cream and stir to combine. Allow the mixture to simmer for 3-4 minutes until slightly thickened.
Stir in the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese until melted and smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste, and add crushed red pepper flakes if desired.
Add the cooked pasta to the skillet and toss to coat in the cheesy sauce. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until heated through.
Serve immediately, garnished with fresh parsley.
For a healthier version, you can substitute turkey sausage for the Italian sausage.
Feel free to add vegetables like spinach, bell peppers, or mushrooms for added nutrition and flavor.
