Equipment

  • 1 large pot
  • 1 colander
  • 1 medium saucepan
  • 1 whisk
  • 1 wooden spoon or spatula
  • 1 serving dish

Ingredients

  • 12 oz egg noodles
  • 3 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup butter (1/2 stick)
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika (optional)

Instructions

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the egg noodles and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain the noodles in a colander and set aside.
  • In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, whisk in the flour to form a roux, cooking for 1-2 minutes until lightly golden.
  • Gradually pour in the milk while continuously whisking to avoid lumps. Continue to whisk until the mixture thickens, about 4-5 minutes.
  • Add the garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and paprika (if using) to the sauce. Stir to combine.
  • Remove the saucepan from heat and gradually add in the shredded cheddar cheese, stirring until fully melted and smooth.
  • In a large mixing bowl or pot, combine the cooked egg noodles with the cheese sauce, stirring until the noodles are evenly coated.
  • Serve the cheesy egg noodles hot, garnished with additional cheese or herbs if desired.

Notes

For added flavor, consider mixing in cooked vegetables like spinach or broccoli.
You can use different cheeses such as mozzarella or gouda for a variation in taste.
Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave with a splash of milk to keep the sauce creamy.
