Ingredients
  

  • 1 large loaf French bread about 12 ounces
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese about 4 ounces
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese about 4 ounces
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter 1 stick
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs (oregano, basil, or a mix)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • to taste fresh parsley chopped (for garnish, optional)

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Cut the loaf of French bread in half lengthwise. Place the halves on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, minced garlic, dried Italian herbs, salt, and pepper.
  • Brush the butter mixture generously onto the cut sides of the bread loaf.
  • Evenly sprinkle the mozzarella and cheddar cheese over the buttered sides of the bread.
  • Wrap each half of the bread in aluminum foil and place in the preheated oven. Bake for 15 minutes.
  • After 15 minutes, remove the foil from the bread halves to expose the cheese, and bake for an additional 5 minutes uncovered, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Carefully remove from the oven and let it cool for a couple of minutes before slicing.
  • Garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired, and serve warm.

Notes

Serve with marinara sauce for dipping if you like.
You can customize the types of cheese used based on your preference.
Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Reheat in the oven for the best texture.
