Ingredients
  

  • 4 slices bread white, sourdough, or whole grain
  • 4 slices cheese cheddar, American, or your choice
  • 4 tablespoons butter 1/2 stick
  • to taste salt optional
  • to taste pepper optional

Instructions
 

  • Start by heating a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
  • Spread 1 tablespoon of butter on one side of each slice of bread.
  • Place two slices of bread in the skillet, buttered side down.
  • Layer two slices of cheese on top of the bread in the skillet.
  • Cover with the remaining two slices of bread, buttered side up.
  • Cook until the bottom slice is golden brown and the cheese is starting to melt, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Carefully flip the sandwiches with a spatula and cook the other side until it's also golden brown and the cheese is fully melted, about another 3-5 minutes.
  • Remove the sandwiches from the skillet and let them cool for a minute before slicing them in half.
