1 Air fryer
1 Sharp knife
1 Bowl for soaking
1 Towel for drying
- 1 pound fresh chestnuts
- N/A water for soaking
- N/A salt optional, to taste
Wash the chestnuts thoroughly under running water to remove any dirt.
Using a sharp knife, carefully make an 'X' cut on the flat side of each chestnut to help steam escape.
Soak the chestnuts in water for about 20 minutes to soften the shells.
Drain the chestnuts and pat them dry with a towel.
Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C).
Place the chestnuts in a single layer in the air fryer basket and sprinkle salt if desired.
Cook the chestnuts in the air fryer for about 12-15 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through.
Transfer the cooked chestnuts to a bowl and cover with a towel for 5 minutes to help steam them.
After steaming, peel the chestnuts while they are still warm and serve hot.
Make sure to wear gloves if the chestnuts are too hot to handle.
You can also experiment with different seasonings like garlic powder or herbs for added flavor.
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator but consume them within a couple of days for the best taste.
